On the French Italian border, La Rosière is one of the Alps’ best-kept secrets. Off the beaten track, with the majestic Mont Blanc dominating the landscape, this Savoyard village is a firm favourite for families. ILY La Rosière embraces this and has created a stylish and welcoming haven. Open plan living, with accommodation perfect for those with children and an exceptionally convivial atmosphere, make this a relaxed place to stay, winter or summer. And with the south facing views across the Tarentaise Valley, it’s location at the heart of the village could not be better.

The rooms and suites here are described as “cocooning spaces” and indeed they are. Designed in simple, modern Alpine style, and decorated in soothing natural tones with relaxed furnishings, they are intimate and welcoming. And with their south facing aspect, they are light filled and airy. The Superior Rooms are spacious, with a king size bed and mountain views. The similarly sized Superior Mountain Rooms have the added bonus of a balcony – the vistas are really quite something. These rooms can interconnect to form a Family Quadruple Room. The Suites are all perfect for families and come in different sizes. The Duplex Suites can sleep up to four over two levels, with a bedroom and a living room with a sofa-bed (for two children under 13 or one over 13). The larger Mountain Suites are similarly configured with a sofa-bed in the living area. The Family Suites are exceptionally comfortable, with two en-suite bedrooms (a king size bed in one, and bunks in the other). The living area also has a sofa-bed, thus being able to sleep up to five. Larger still are the Privilege Suites, with two en-suite bedrooms and a living area, sleeping up to five. Families and friends love the Prestige Suite – it sleeps up to seven in three en-suite bedrooms, and comes with a jet bath on the terrace.

The fabulously decorated Restaurant Le Bonami, with its brightly coloured velvet chairs and banquettes is vibrant and buzzy. Serving a delicious mix of Savoyard and Italian mountain dishes, hearty bowls of soup and a very indulgent pudding menu, there’s something for every palette. Together with the St B Bar, it opens out onto a sunny terrace, with sun beds, fire pits and stunning cinematic views. And for those with a really sweet tooth, you won’t be able to resist the Tonka chocolate shop…

ILY La Rosière is very much a family hotel. The rooms and suites are specifically designed with families in mind and the hotel has a kids’ club “Les Galopins” for children between 18 months and 12 years old. Indoor and outdoor activities and creative programmes fill the days throughout the winter and the summer, some of which are free, and others come with a charge. Individual and group ski lessons can be arranged through the hotel with ESF and Evolution 2, with freeride and freestyle sessions also an option.

Winter: Just 100m from Les Eucherts Express lift, ILY La Rosière promises ski-in/ski-out access, with more than 150km of slopes for all levels at the tips of your skis or snowboard. Fabulously wide slopes and challenging off piste descents, as well as tremendous ski touring terrain, will keep you going for well over a week. And all the equipment you need can be rented from the hotel’s ski shop.

Summer: When the snow has melted, and the mountains reveal their summer glory, La Rosière offers uncrowded hiking and biking trails. Criss cross the French Italian border and enjoy the delights of the mountain restaurants, or pack a picnic and find a remote spot on the southern flanks of Mont Blanc.

All year round the glass fronted Spa, with its spectacular panoramic views has a large heated pool, three treatment rooms, a sauna and steam room and three whirlpools – one of which sits outside on the terrace. The treatments use organic ingredients from mountain plants and minerals with re-energising properties. It’s just too tempting after a day in the mountains.

ILY La Rosière has a genuine green commitment, with an aim to protect and preserve its mountain environment. There’s a zero tolerance to plastic – no single-use items or even anything decorative. Energy comes from green sources; water usage is monitored, and cleaning products are all environmentally friendly. Produce is organic and sourced locally wherever possible. Each month a “dark dinner” is held, reducing energy consumption and showcasing the beauty of the night sky.
