Wine Tasting Evening at Neal’s Yard Dairy

23rd October 2012

With winter just around the corner, it falls to us at F&P HQ to go through the arduous task of selecting our wine list for the coming winter (definitely one of the tougher parts of the job!).  We always need a little bit of help, advice and spare taste buds and this comes in the form of several willing friends of F&P, journalists, a couple of team members, the ladies at Mad Dog Ski and of course our lovely wine supplier Sam Owens from Le Verre Gourmand.

This year’s venue was selected for it’s proximity to large quantities of wine’s best friend – cheese, in the foodiest district London has to offer – Neal’s Yard Dairy in Borough Market. The warehouse room above the shop was the perfect location for our humble (and rather alcoholic) guests.  NYD provided us with some monster cheese boards, accompanied by some delicious lavosh crackers produced by ex (sadly) F&P chef Rhys and followed by some even more delicious Salt Caramel Truffles.

Sam took us through a total of 22 wines including 3 different types of fizz, 9 whites, 2 rosés and 8 reds.  The score cards get more illegible the further down the list we get, but suffice it to say that our critics were honest and thorough in their comments and have provided us with a solid set of view points which we will use to select our wines.

Here are some photos of the event, needless to say we think it will become an annual event so watch this space!

Thank you Neal’s Yard, thank you Sam and thank you Tasters!
