How to spend a delicious long weekend in Mallorca…

21st February 2020

For those of you who would like to combine food and culture with a bit of relaxation – may we recommend the following itinerary..

Day 1 – Explore Palma

Fly to Palma where you can make the short transfer into the centre to stay at the gorgeous Convent de la Missio a beautiful former convent dating back to the seventeenth century.  This hotel prides itself on combing art with urban living and is brilliantly located for you to explore this bustling city.

Marvel at the cathedral, wander the quaint streets, visit a local tapas bar for a beverage or two before returning to the hotels roof top pool to relax. If you arrive in time for lunch Palma’s food scene is fast emerging and there is plenty to sample. We discovered an excellent tapas restaurant ‘La Rosa Vermuteria’ near to the Convent and loved its buzzing atmosphere and scrummy tapas. If fish is your flavour of choice then no trip is complete without a visit to the seafood bistro Casa Fernando in the Fisherman’s district of Palma.

For dinner we recommend that you book a table at the hotel’s Michelin starred restaurant Marc Fosh. The food here is truly sublime and you won’t have far to wander to your bedroom afterwards for a good nights sleep.

Day 2 – Discover Pollenca

City life complete we would recommend you jump in a hire car which has been conveniently delivered to the hotel on the morning of your departure and head north to the northern town of Pollenca taking in Inca on your way.  Just in case you fancied another gastronomic treat we would recommend that you try Es Ginebro.  Granted this is a vegetarian restaurant which might not be to everyone’s tastes but it is definitely worth a visit for its organically home grown ingredients.

Check-in to the beautiful Son Brull, an old monastery, which has been beautifully converted inside and out to transform it into a sophisticated private hideaway.  Set in its own vineyard, olive grove and citrus orchard, the emphasis is very much on traditional hospitality and attention to detail.  You are going to find it hard to extract yourself from the pool but if you can head into the ancient rural town of Pollenca. If there is any space in your suitcase you can wander through the boutique-lined back streets before pulling up a chair on the main square, ordering a cocktail and watching the world go by. Head back to the hotel for dinner in its restaurant, Restaurant 365, where head chef Rafel Perelló sources traditional Mallorcan ingredients – many from the hotel’s own grounds and groves – to create exquisite à la carte dishes.

Day 3 – Admire the beauty of the north

After setting yourself up for the day with a delicious Son Brull breakfast, either spend the day relaxing and rejuvenating at the hotel or instead spend the day exploring all that this north part of the Island has to offer, whether it be on foot, by car or taking out one of the hotel bikes. This part of the Island has azure beaches, including the beautiful bay of Cala Sant Vicent (sun loungers can be booked by reception) and the Tramuntana Mountains which are wonderful for cycling, walking or hiking around. You will not be disappointed by the scenery whether it be coastal or inland.

After the days escapades head to the Port de Pollenca for a cheeky sundowner. Just behind the harbour is a family run traditional restaurant called Bodega Can Ferra where you will find some of the best paella served on the island. This is a great find for dinner, eat outside with a bottle of local wine and soak up the atmosphere.

Day 4 – Head to the coast

If you have time we highly recommend heading to the coast for a final night stay at either of the intimate hideaways of Pleta de Mar or Can Simoneta. Both of these hotels are ideal for escaping it all and enjoying natures beauty. Take your pick to stay in either of these gorgeous hotels but definitely take the opportunity to sample the cuisine of both. Perhaps have lunch at Can Simoneta outside overlooking the Med and then take dinner at Pleta de Mar making the most of their locally grilled meat and fish over the open fire.

Day 5 – Homeward bound

Return to the airport enriched by all you have seen and wondering whether next time you could allow yourself more time on the beach!
