Villa Il Campanile – Umbria, Italy
Il Campanile is the ancient church on the privately owned Carmine Estate in the heart of Umbria not far from Perugia and the border with Tuscany. This exceptionally well restored property is located at the foot of Monte Tezio in a protected valley where the wildlife is abundant, nature is thriving and views are second to none.
In addition to the incredibly beautiful restoration of the church and the farmhouse, the owners have also brought this abandoned valley back to life and now there is a fully working farm including olive groves, 5.5 hectares of red and white grapes, a truffle wood and pasture where a variety of organic produce is grown.
The church has been meticulously restored and is now the living room at Il Campanile. This room is perfect for curling up on the sofa with a book or watching a film on the large pull-down projector screen, or simply enjoying the surrounding countryside views through the floor to ceiling glass windows. Off the living room is an elegant dining room with wood burner for the guests staying during the cooler months to dine inside or in the summer months head to the pergola covered al fresco dining area. The well equipped kitchen is also located in the church.
Across from the church via a small courtyard is the immaculately and thoughtfully restored farmhouse where the bedrooms are located. Outside the pool area and surrounding gardens are stunning. You will find a pergola, outdoor fridge, sun beds and large umbrellas, tables and chairs, outdoor heated shower and pool house. The area around the pool has been fenced for safety but this does not impose on the wonderful views. Fabulous days can be spent here relaxing and unwinding amidst this corner of paradise.

Split across two floors in the farmhouse there are six double or twin bedrooms all en-suite as well as two single bedrooms with hand basins. Each of the bedrooms have wonderful views, beamed ceilings, exposed stonework, top quality lines and state of the art bathrooms. The master bedroom even has a fireplace and terrace with steps down to the garden.

There’s daily housekeeping, pool maintenance and gardening. There is an on-site manager who lives 5 minutes away from the property. A chef, cookery classes, babysitting, taxi’s, wine tours, truffle hunts, guided walks and beauty treatments can all be organised on request.

For golfers there is the excellent Antognolla course nearby and from Il Campanile itself anyone who loves nature will relish the walks and opportunity to go truffle hunting!
