With its woodland setting, blending harmoniously into the natural surroundings, Lefay’s striking architecture mimics the towering Dolomite peaks. Inside, wood, stone, glass and leather reflect its mountain setting, whilst floor to ceiling windows make the most of the outstanding UNESCO World Heritage Site views. As dusk falls, and the enrosadira – the pink Dolomite glow – colours the peaks, and the firepits are lit around the pool and on the terrace, you couldn’t think of being anywhere else. The truly incredible Spa is also something to experience – it is surely one of the best in Italy, and if not, further. Most of the staff are local, and their knowledge and expertise is faultless – guests have their every need anticipated. Whether you’re here for a long weekend, a week, in summer or winter, you can’t fail to leave more energised and alive.

Each side of the glass fronted core of the resort, are the larch clad suites with their spacious interiors furnished in natural fabrics and decorated in muted colours. All feature floor to ceiling windows, balconies or terraces, electric fireplaces and luxurious bathrooms behind wooden slatted partitions. The large Prestige Junior Suites look out over the forest and the outdoor pool and is an intimate space. The similar sized Deluxe Junior Suites have views of the mountains and along the valley. The Family Suites sleep four, in two en suite bedrooms, and are supremely comfortable. With a VIP welcome, the Exclusive SPA Suites, are just that. Spacious and luxurious, they also feature a Jacuzzi and bio-sauna. The Royal Pool & SPA Suite can interconnect with one or two Prestige Junior Suites, and comes with a fully furnished terrace with a heated whirlpool, looking over the valley. These suites are enormous, boasting walk in wardrobes, private Spa with a bio-sauna, steam room, Jacuzzi and treatment loungers. For a more independent stay, the Residences are ideal. From one to three en suite bedrooms, they come with fully equipped kitchens and living and dining areas and a free-standing whirlpool.

With provenance high on its menu, the cuisine at Lefay is seasonal, healthy and delicious. Dolomia is a destination in itself, with floor to ceiling windows bringing the panoramic view to your table. The menu is full of local dishes as well as a wider Mediterranean flavour. And don’t miss pudding – it’s legendary. Grual is the gourmet restaurant, with ingredients from local producers, the surrounding mountains, forests and pastures. We definitely recommend the 12 course tasting menu. For pre-dinner drinks, the Lounger Bar including the Sky Lounge, with their inspiring views are both relaxed and welcoming.

Lefay welcomes families in that inimitable Italian way. The Family Suites and Residences are perfect, and there’s a family sauna in the pool area for the over 10s. The Dolomia Restaurant also have kids menus.

The jewel in Lefay’s crown is undisputedly the Spa. Built over four floors with picture frame windows over the Dolomites and with four separate spaces for different energy types, it is a unique concept. Bio-saunas, Finnish saunas, cold and hot Kneipp pools, a magnesium enriched whirl pool, a salt cave and a salt lake to float in, will leave you relaxed and invigorated all at the same time. Morning stretching classes get you slope ready and one-to-one hamstring exercises will make you feel you’ve just skied a World Cup slalom! And the mix of Eastern and Western treatments and therapies is sublime – no wonder it’s referred to as a wellness temple. Situated just above the village of Pinzolo, there’s a shuttle service that takes you directly to the lifts, where you have the entire Madonna di Campiglio ski area at your ski tips. The resort has its own ski shop and a fitting service. In summer, the mountains offer an idyllic setting for hiking, mountain biking and riding, and close by is a nine hole golf course. The Dolomites have it all.

Sustainability is at the core of Lefay’s essence. Energy comes from renewable sources, and the resort has its own biomass furnace, a cogeneration plant and a water management system.
