Finca Serena – Mallorca, Balearic Islands
When you’re thinking of getting away from it all, Finca Serena should most definitely be at the top of your list. In the middle of Mallorca, in fifty hectares of its own vineyards, olives and citrus trees, pines and lavender, it’s a little haven of serenity. Hence the name. Formerly a farmhouse, it has been stylishly turned into a dreamy retreat, from which you probably won’t stray during your entire stay.
The pool is designed for lounging around, but if you’re after even more peace and quiet, there are plenty of shady spots around the grounds. You can wander around the vineyards and orchards, and the Finca organises wine and olive oil tasting. Everything runs at a very relaxed pace here, making you feel an age away from your daily life, the instant you cross the threshold. Staff are attentive and friendly and pay great attention to detail – you’ll want for nothing.

We love the warm Mediterranean simplicity of Finca Serena’s rooms and suites, which are spread throughout the main house and converted farm buildings in the grounds. All are generous in size and are minimalist but tasteful and harmonious in décor. King size beds, Egyptian cotton bed linen and fluffy feather pillow from the pillow menu guarantee a good night’s sleep, and the bathrooms all have large walk in rain showers and plenty of space. For total privacy, the Suites are wonderful.
Set away from the main building in the grounds, they have large windows giving you magnificent views of the estate and towards the Tramuntana mountains.
food
The finca has its own kitchen garden, where much of the produce is grown. Everything else is locally sourced and transformed into authentic and delicious fare, at the hands of the chef Celia Martin-Nieto. Sit back with a sharing plate of tapas on the veranda at lunch overlooking the Pla de Montuiri, and savour long dinners in Jacaranda each evening, where the menu changes daily. And once a week, you can eat under the stars in the vineyard.

If you’re not a regular Spa visitor, you should book a treatment here. The terrace overlooking the surrounding countryside is as relaxing as it gets, whilst the indoor pool with its own fireplace is just as indulgent. There’s a fully equipped gym, sauna and hammam, and classes are offered in yoga, mindfulness, pilates and tai chi. Roam through the lavender fields on the walking paths or take one of the hotels bicycles to explore the island. There are several nearby golf courses, and riding and cycling can easily be organised. Mallorca’s beautiful beaches and Palma are also within easy reach.

Ingredients are sourced with sustainability in mind. The finca utilises its kitchen garden and orchards for most produced, and makes sure that anything extra is locally sourced. Solar power is used to heat water, and local building materials were used in construction.
