We love this hotel for its beautiful location, stunning views and variety of gorgeous suite options available.
Standing sophisticatedly on a rocky outcrop, surrounded by the azure waters of Mirabello Bay and jaw droppingly beautiful views, Elounda Peninsula is one of Crete’s best places to stay. We love the clever architecture that blends in with its dramatic setting, combined with plenty of Greek charm and authentic hospitality. There are only suites here, all of which are bountiful in size and look out over the sea towards the Sitia Mountains on the east of the island. This is a place for relaxing and taking advantage of the wealth of activities on offer – watersports galore, golf, tennis, or for those after slightly less exertion, the Spa. The wonders of Crete are easily reached, with Spinalonga island and Plaka a short drive away. So just pack your swimwear, suntan lotion and the books you’ve been meaning to read for ages, and wind down Cretan style.
Cool, white walled interiors, with luxurious bathrooms, all the suites and villas have spacious terraces and dreamy views. Not many places have their Junior Suites as the entry level accommodation, and these split level, roomy havens are beautifully appointed with a view across the Aegean. The Peninsula Collection Suites can sleep from three to seven people in one to three bedrooms and come with separate living areas and their own heated saltwater pool. Right by the water are the very romantic Beachfront Junior Suites, where you’ll go to sleep with the gentle lapping of the waves. The Peninsula Grand Villas live up to their name and can sleep from five to seven people. They have good sized gardens with a heated saltwater pool and really spacious interiors. The bathrooms are something else, with steam showers and Airbaths. We love the Presidential Suites with their own access to the jetty or beach, enormous living space and the view of the sea from the bed. And as for the Presidential Villas, you might not even venture further than the plunge pool! They have two master bedrooms and are right on the water. For larger families, the Diamond Residences range from one to six bedrooms and have their own exclusive beach and large pools. The Royal Grande Suite, takes luxury living to new heights, with its beachfront setting, staff quarters, Spa and huge private garden. And then, there’s the truly rock star Peninsula Residence. This is luxury Greek villa living at its best – incredibly stylish antique furnishings and artwork, enormous living area, terraces overlooking the beach and a private jetty. Think shipping magnate lifestyle and indulge!
One of the great things about staying at the Elounda Peninsula, is the huge variety of restaurants. At Calypso, with its fabulous sea view, the emphasis is on fine dining, whilst Koh is based on the flavours of the Far East. The wine cellar can be booked for private dining, and has a superb choice of Greek wines, as well as a comprehensive international list. There are a further six restaurants in the sister hotels where guests can also eat on a dine around service, including the Yacht Club with its beachfront location and Odysseas on the edge of the resort’s natural harbour serving delicious classic Greek dishes.
With their spacious suite only accommodation, there are plenty of options for families. The resort has exceptional childcare facilities with their Kids Ark. It offers a Crèche for children from aged between 4 months and 4 years and an activities centre for kids over the age of 5. There’s a children’s pool with waterslides, trampolines, a basketball court, table-top games, as well as tennis, golf and watersports lessons for older children. The restaurants have kid’s menus and can prepare fresh food for babies. Guests can even pre-order nappies and supplies that will be ready and waiting for you when you arrive. You can rest assured that children are treated like royalty here!
The Six Senses Spa is shared with Elounda Peninsula’s sister hotels, and the treatment list is extensive, including individually tailored wellness programmes. Not surprisingly, there are a number of watersports on offer from water skiing and wakeboarding to scuba diving and windsurfing, and guests can rent motor boats to explore further afield. Or you can go bigger and charter the resort’s private yacht. There’s a nine hole golf course, three tennis courts, and a private cinema too.
