In the ever so glamorous resort of Verbier, the Cordée des Alpes shines out with its traditional Swiss chalet frontage and cool, contemporary interior. Old wooden panels and beams, granite and marble walls, it’s homely and sophisticatedly furnished – it really is one of our favourites! Both the food and the service here are exemplary, seeing guests and their families book year on year. We love the friendly vibe and best of all, it’s right in the heart of the village. The hotel’s shuttle will take you to the Médran lift each morning and pick you up at the end of the day, and the resort’s shops, bars and restaurants are just a short walk away.
Wooden panelling, super soft goose down duvets, cosy throws and contemporary bathrooms, all the rooms and suites have queen size beds, flat screen TVs, video on demand and a minibar. Nearly all have a balcony, except for the Comfort Rooms. These are the smallest in the hotel, and we recommend these for the younger members of your party. The slightly larger south facing Superior Rooms can be made into twins. The Deluxe Rooms are very spacious and can accommodate a couple and child (on a rollaway bed). This is also the case for the Elegance Rooms, which are bigger still and open plan with a dressing area. Request one with a fireplace. The Prestige Suites are enormous and feel like a chalet. Each one is south facing and comes with a fireplace. The apartments and Penthouses are ideal for families and give you an extra level of independence. Set up as private chalets, with fully equipped kitchens, they sleep between four and six people, with all the bedrooms en suite (some with bunk beds) and large balconies looking out over the resort and mountains.
We think the breakfasts at Cordée des Alpes are some of the best we’ve had, and they’ll certainly get you through until lunchtime. Restaurant La Cordée is only open for dinner, however the menu is exceptional. With the focus most definitely on local and regional produce, it’s based on traditional French cooking, but with a very modern take. The fish courses are especially good. Book in advance for the chef’s table (maximum five people), where you’ll experience life in the kitchen.
There are no specific facilities for children, however the hotel is perfect for families with children of all ages. There are plenty of room options for families; the large pool in the Spa can be used and there is a special menu for the smaller ones.
The Spa at Cordée is simply enormous and very luxurious – you won’t be able to stay there without at least one visit. You’ll find a 15m pool, open wood burning fireplace, Jacuzzi with views of the mountains, hammam, fitness room and a good list of treatments. The hotel has a shuttle bus for taking guests to the ski lifts and back, saving you the walk, and you can get your lift passes from the front desk.
Pure energy pulses through the magical mountains of Verbier in summer. Delicately perched at 1,500m on a sunny plateau, you can enjoy breath-taking views of the glorious Massif des Combins. Wander the classically alpine village of slate-roofed chalets, or venture into the magnificent surroundings. Explorers are spoilt for choice, with over 500km of hiking trails and over 800km of biking trails, complete with everything from daring descents to relaxing picnic spots. In this special region, there are tons of other remarkable activities on offer. The unique Alaïa Bay houses a surf wave basin for beginners to experts, whilst the Esserts Golf Course has one of the most impressive backdrops in the world. For true thrill-seekers, the Mont-Fort zipline has no substitute, travelling 1.4km at over 100km per hour! Look to explore the wonderful Verbier with Cordée des Alpes today.
