For skiers and foodies, the CERVO ticks each and every box. Its enviable position, with direct access to the Sunnegga Express lift, and located at the bottom of a couple of red runs back down, together with its exceptional menu (we’ve had our fair share of the truffle chips), make it one of the best places to stay in Zermatt. Contemporary Swiss chalet style on the outside and modern, clean and crisp alpine chic with traditional touches here and there on the inside – we love the décor here. But most of all, it’s about soaking up the atmosphere. Late afternoons spent on the terrace looking out across the Matterhorn with a drink and live music – the CERVO’s après ski is not surprisingly very popular. Match this with typical Zermatt hospitality, and it’s not hard to see why this is one of our favourites.
The rooms and suites are arranged in three different room concepts, Nomad, Alpinist and Huntsman, and in 7 different lodges. These lodges each offer something unique and are spread over the grounds of the Mountain Resort. There is also another lodge, Overlook Lodge just a short walk from the CERVO which is made up five of serviced apartments. All of the accommodation options boast stunning views of the surrounding mountains. Nomad offers 4* accommodation comprising of rooms and suites ranging from small to large and for couples or families. The rooms here are stylish and flexible making it the perfect base to explore Zermatt and enjoy the amenities of of CERVO. The Alpinist offers 5* accommodation made up of double rooms and suites, all of which come with their own bar. These stylish rooms have been designed with relaxation in mind and also range from smaller rooms to The Alpinist Spa Suite that comes with its very own spa integrated into the living area. Finally the Huntsman chalet is the most exclusive of them all. Located further away from the bustle of the town this chalet offers total peace and seclusion. Take the Triple Suite, Spa Suite or the whole of the Huntsman Lodge, there is a world of possibilities. The Huntsman Lodge is ideal for families or a party of friends. A private chalet, it looks across to the Matterhorn and no luxury is spared. Finally, the Overlook Lodge offers CERVO lifestyle in individual 4* serviced apartments, located 300m away from the mountain resort itself. From cosy studios to a penthouse with 3 bedrooms, there is something for everyone here.
The food here is so exceptionally good, the dilemma is whether to go small on lunch up the mountain and save space for dinner, or to ski back and sit on the terrace with a famous CERVO burger. For sophisticated dining, Madre Nostra serves fresh and seasonal cuisine with an Italian influence. Here you will find homemade pasta and delicious grilled meat and fish, with all of the ingredients coming from local farms and fishermen. In a separate chalet, Ferdinand is where you head for hearty traditional Swiss fondues and raclettes – paired with wine from and extensive list. Meanwhile relaxed Bazaar is inspired by the lively markets of the East. The menu here is 100% vegetarian and served throughout the day.
The CERVO welcomes families and is very children friendly. From the Junior Suite upwards there are sofa beds for children, and all of the smaller rooms can be made into twins.
Unlike many hotels in the centre of Zermatt, the CERVO with its mountainside location, has very easy access to the slopes and guests can save precious time in the morning, by hopping straight onto the Sunnegga Express funicular. The Mountain Ashram Spa is a fantastic space for relaxation with a herbal steam bath, japanese onsen, tea yurt, sauna, treatment rooms, ritual room, as well as yoga and pilates on offer. This summer they are also adding a swimming pond for sunny days.
A stay here in the summer time is a truly magical experience. The mountains are are extremely beautiful. In Zermatt there are endless hiking and biking trails and CERVO is the place to be for an aprés bike or hike. With special summer packages (speak to us) as well as DJs, artists and travelling yogis/therapists from all over the world visiting here there is plenty to keep you entertained. Otherwise if you are searching for some down time why not unwind with yoga or meditation whilst gazing out at views of the Matterhorn on their sun deck.
