The Cliff at Cap offers creative fine dining with sensational views and a contemporary French Caribbean contemporary menu whilst the Naked Fisherman serves more casual, yet delectably stylish, seafood right on the beach (non-seafood options also available). More hacienda charm than colonial, Cap Maison commands a lofty cliff top position looking west – there’s no better sunset view with a rum punch in hand. On a clear day, you’ll see Martinique on the horizon. Sitting in verdant landscaped gardens, little courtyards and wide lawns, full of colourful tropical flowers and hummingbirds, it’s secluded and private, with a fabulously intimate atmosphere. It is family owned, and the resulting service, where nothing is too much trouble, makes this one of the finest boutique hotels in St Lucia. It is abound with character – from the distinctly Spanish style architecture, to the little sandy beach at the foot of the cliffs, and for us, the highlight is the food. This is the place to kick off your shoes, sit back and relax Caribbean style.

Dotted around the tropical gardens and at the top of the cliffs, the Spanish style rooms and suites are elegant and stylish. Terracotta floors, white crenellated walls, covered verandahs entwined with bougainvillea and a feeling of seclusion are what you’ll find here. The Garden View Rooms open out onto wide terraces or balconies with floor to ceiling louvred windows, looking out across the lush gardens. Light and airy, they have king size beds and large walk-in showers. With partial ocean and garden views, the Junior Suites are spacious and feature wide covered verandas, and some have outdoor showers. For more space, especially for families, the Spanish Courtyard Suites are ideal. Surrounding the courtyard pool, they have separate, very comfortable living areas and kitchen, and a large terrace or balcony with loungers. If it’s a view you’re after, then the Oceanview Suites with Hot Tub, or Pool are airy and relaxing. Mesmerising views over the Caribbean towards Mustique are the real draw here, and we love the downstairs living areas, and the king size fourposter bed upstairs. And it goes without saying, the private Jacuzzi or pool are the icing on the cake. But to top it all, the Oceanview Suites with Pool & Roof Terrace, are rather magnificent. With full kitchens and large living areas, inside and out, they are perfect for luxurious tropical living. For total privacy, the villas at Cap Maison allow you to be totally self sufficient, with the added luxury of being able to use all the resort’s restaurants and facilities. And you can have all your groceries delivered fresh to your villa door. You’ll find a range of two to three bedroom villas, and many with their own pool, or roof terrace pool.

The cuisine at Cap Maison has a reputation that has spread far and wide. Dine on innovative Caribbean dishes with a strong French influence at Cliff at Cap, with views out to sea, accompanied by a very impressive wine list stocked from a walk-in cellar – having begun your evening on Rock Maison with your champagne delivered by zip wire! For a more informal setting, the fabulously named Naked Fisherman beach bar and restaurant serves exceptionally good, locally caught and freshly grilled seafood. For an intimate and romantic dinner, Cap Maison will set up a table for you at Smugglers Point – or start the day there with a champagne breakfast. And for the serious foodies amongst you, there’s the chance to visit the local markets with the resort’s executive chef Craig Jones, choosing ingredients for you to cook yourself on your return, under his guidance.

The suites and villas at Cap Maison are perfect for families – where you can be completely self contained.

Whilst it would be very tempting to not leave Cap Maison, St Lucia is an island that deserves to be explored. The team at the concierge desk will happily organise tours for you. Explore by boat, trek through rainforest, or head down to the Pitons and climb to the top. Or take full advantage of everything that the resort has to offer. There’s a very good range of complimentary non-motorised water sports, from kayaks, to hobie cats and from paddle boarding to windsurfing and snorkeling, all accessed from the beach, reached by steps down the cliffs. Just a few minutes away is the St Lucia Golf and Country Club with its very scenic 18 hole course, surrounded by the Atlantic and Caribbean sea – it’s a must for anyone with a good handicap. We love the treatments and therapies at the Spa, and if you’re feeling indulgent, the therapist will come to your suite. You can also book a private yoga or pilates instructor, or join a class. This is a fabulous place for well-being, and we’re pretty certain, you’ll return with your batteries restored.
