Cap Maison – St Lucia
More hacienda charm than colonial, Cap Maison commands a lofty cliff top position looking west – there’s no better sunset view with a rum punch in hand. On a clear day, you’ll see Martinique on the horizon. Sitting in verdant landscaped gardens, little courtyards and wide lawns, full of colourful tropical flowers and hummingbirds, it’s secluded and private, with a fabulously intimate atmosphere. It is family owned, and the resulting service, where nothing is too much trouble, makes this one of the finest boutique hotels in St Lucia.
It is abound with character – from the distinctly Spanish style architecture, to the little sandy beach at the foot of the cliffs, and for us, the highlight is the food. This is the place to kick off your shoes, sit back and relax Caribbean style.

Dotted around the tropical gardens and at the top of the cliffs, the Spanish style rooms and suites are elegant and stylish. Terracotta floors, white crenellated walls, covered verandahs entwined with bougainvillea and a feeling of seclusion are what you’ll find here. Philippa loves the Ocean View Villa Suite With Pool. These are spacious and feature a large separate living and dining area as well as generous private pool. They all have wonderful ocean views and are surrounded by balconies, terraces and verdant tropical landscaping.

The cuisine at Cap Maison has a reputation that has spread far and wide. Dine on innovative Caribbean dishes with a strong French influence at Cliff at Cap, with views out to sea, accompanied by a very impressive wine list stocked from a walk-in cellar – having begun your evening on Rock Maison with your champagne delivered by zip wire! For a more informal setting, the fabulously named Naked Fisherman beach bar and restaurant serves exceptionally good, locally caught and freshly grilled seafood.
For an intimate and romantic dinner, Cap Maison will set up a table for you at Smugglers Point – or start the day there with a champagne breakfast. And for the serious foodies amongst you, there’s the chance to visit the local markets with the resort’s executive chef Craig Jones, choosing ingredients for you to cook yourself on your return, under his guidance.

Whilst it would be very tempting to not leave Cap Maison, St Lucia is an island that deserves to be explored. The team at the concierge desk will happily organise tours for you. Explore by boat, trek through rainforest, or head down to the Pitons and climb to the top. Or take full advantage of everything that the resort has to offer.
There’s a very good range of complimentary non-motorised water sports, from kayaks to hobie cats and from paddle boarding to windsurfing and snorkelling, all accessed from the beach, reached by steps down the cliffs. Just a few minutes away is the St Lucia Golf and Country Club with its very scenic eighteen hole course, surrounded by the Atlantic and Caribbean sea – it’s a must for anyone with a good handicap. We love the treatments and therapies at the Spa, and if you’re feeling indulgent, the therapist will come to your suite. You can also book a private yoga or pilates instructor, or join a class. This is a fabulous place for well-being, and we’re pretty certain, you’ll return with your batteries restored.
