Calcot Manor & Spa – The Cotswolds, England
Situated in its very own rolling estate, Calcot Manor dates all the way back to the 1300s. But there’s definitely nothing medieval about the design, luxury and service you’ll encounter here now. A little Cotswolds haven of peace for couples and everything parents with children could wish for – every single little detail has been thought of. The interiors are elegant and smart, and outside the neat gardens and rambling estate provide ample space for winding down.
The food is divine; there’s a list as long as your arm of things to do, and the Spa is spectacular. This is the place to come for restoring batteries and enjoying time together, and we wouldn’t blame you if you didn’t leave the estate for your entire stay.

Impeccably styled, with seriously comfortable beds and luxuriously large bathrooms, the rooms and suites are more interior designed private home than country hotel. No two are the same and we love the mix of vintage and modern furniture and touches – not to mention the homemade shortbread and mini fridge.

The Calcot Manor’s gastronomic reputation has spread far and wide in the Cotswolds. The Conservatory promises exceptional flavours in a relaxed atmosphere, looking out over the estate. Fresh, local and seasonal produce make up the menu and a distinct Mediterranean twist. Whilst at The Gumstool, the hotel’s very own pub, you’ll find exceptionally delicious classic dishes and a very warm welcome. And if you’re celebrating something special, the private dining options are limitless – inside and out.

The fabulously appointed Spa deserves at least one visit. With its lengthy list of treatments and therapies, indoor pool, fireside hot tub, sauna and steam room, you’ll not find it hard to switch off. There’s also a well-equipped gym and a full timetable of classes. Head outside for the “Trim Trail”, a 3km run through the grounds; play tennis, cycle, or just explore the 220 acre estate on foot or on a segway.
There’s a riding school not far away where lessons can be booked, and just down the road are the spectacular Westonbirt Arboretum and Highgrove gardens. Tetbury, with its antique shops and galleries is perfect for a morning browse and further afield the Cotswolds idyllic countryside and honey coloured villages beckon.

The manor doesn’t put it any better – they are not just “child friendly” – they are totally geared up to hosting families and children. From treasure hunts around the 220 acre estate to organised activities in the play barn, to Wii consoles and PlayStations for the older ones, your children won’t know the meaning of boredom. There’s also a crèche, so parents can have some downtime, either over dinner or at the Spa.
The Family Pads all come with baby monitors, bottle warmers and sterilisers, making packing for families with small children so much easier, and the restaurant does a high tea at 5.30.

Calcot Manor appreciates its heritage rooted in the land. Rewilding practises are a key focus here, to further enhance their gorgeous green spaces. Look out for the new woodland areas during your stay, which harbour an increasing number of rare and endangered species!
