Your hosts at 22 Summits have a wealthy history of Zermatt hospitality and have left no stone unturned with their new venture, making guests feel at home from the word go. Opened during the 2018/19 season, at the top of the village, it’s a designer retreat with the feel of a luxury chalet. We love its aged timber walls and floors and the minimalist decoration – and above all, the relaxed and intimate vibe. Before heading into the village for dinner, the bar and lounge are convivial places to mull over the day and sip a cocktail made from regional ingredients. And for those who want to get their skis on as soon as the lifts open, the 22 Summits’ location doesn’t get much better. You can access the entire Zermatt and Cervinia ski areas from the Matterhorn Express, just a short walk away.
With exceptionally comfortable beds, cool lighting, floor to ceiling windows and spacious bathrooms (with either a shower or a bath), the rooms and suites at 22 Summits have undoubtedly some of the best views in the resort. The “Morning Sun” Double Rooms look out over the village itself, giving you the first rays of the day before you head out for the day. The slightly larger Double Deluxe Rooms “Matterhorn” speak for themselves, and you could never tire of that view from your bed or balcony. The most spacious is the Suite “Morning Sun”, with its mezzanine layout and pull out sofa bed. Our favourites are the Suites “Matterhorn”, again with a mezzanine level and balcony and quite spectacular views.
22 Summits only serves breakfast, which is fresh, delicious and plentiful. For dinner, the bars and restaurants are just a short walk into the centre of the village and maybe an electric taxi back!
We think this is more of a grown up hotel, or for families with older children. There are no facilities for children, although there are larger suites that will sleep up to three people.
Built into the mountainside, with the rock exposed, and lit in dazzling colours, the Spa is a chic sanctuary. It’s takes up two floors and is huge, with a whirlpool bath on the terrace outside, sauna, Vitarium and a gym. We recommend the hay bath – a typically alpine treatment.
