Menus are agreed in advance. See sample menu here.

The food here is a tasty, locally sourced, organic fare.

The vegetables, salads, herbs and berries are all grown in Alladale’s aquaponic 1.5 acre garden. We love that the  electricity needed to power the greenhouses is produced by a hydro-generator, making it a zero waste and zero emissions ethical food production scheme. The venison is wild and ethically culled whilst regional suppliers offer fresh and wild caught seafood and local trout. Menus are tailored to your tastes by chef Natasha Buttigieg. She will prepare three lovely, homely meals a day during the whole of your stay which will be delivered to your cottage daily.

sustainability

Alladale Wilderness Reserve is a 23,000 acre estate deep in the Scottish Highlands whose mission is to restore the balance of nature. A stay here directly contributes to the work of their charity partner The European Nature Trust which supports wildlife and conservation projects cross Europe. We love its strong stance on sustainability and how it highly values its connection with local produce, suppliers, communities, people and businesses.

From sourcing all its’ ingredients from their own vegetable garden or local suppliers to boosting local employment and supporting local attractions.  Alongside this the Alladale team works hard to rewild this unique part of the Highlands to its former glory, reintroducing original plant and wildlife species. Over the last 15 years, amongst numerous projects, they have planted almost 1 million trees, restored damaged peatlands, brought back the red squirrel, introduced a Scottish wildcat enclosure as part of a captive breeding project in partnership with the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland and hosted thousands of local teenagers for week-long outdoor school trip.

Alladale proud to produce energy with micro hydro generator on their river, which covers 80% of annual energy use. From sourcing most of its’ ingredients from their own aquaponic garden and local suppliers to boosting local employment and supporting local attractions. With the support of a dedicated and committed team they set about creating a Wilderness Reserve; over the last two decades they have planted a million native trees, restored damaged peatlands, brought back the red squirrel and established a wildcat breeding centre. They have hosted thousands of local teenagers for immersive 5 day outdoor experiences. Today their business model is centred around nature-positive tourism, and their four lodges host guests with interests from nature and wildlife to photography, fitness, yoga and even sometimes relaxation! Their aim is to help visitors connect to nature in a calm, stunning and restorative setting.
