Cut in two by the equator, with the Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn lying to the north and south, and lapped by the waters of the Mediterranean and Red Seas and the Indian and Atlantic Oceans. It encompasses deserts, impenetrable rainforests, vast plains, ice capped mountains, rivers that flow for thousands of miles and is home to a myriad of cultures and a wealth of wildlife.
